Bathroom Remodel with Sliding Glass Shower and Gold Fixtures

This Austin bathroom got a full refresh with one unifying design choice – gold hardware throughout. The sliding glass shower doors, faucet, mirror frame, and light fixture all match, which pulls the whole space together. The light sage tile in the shower adds subtle color without taking over, and the wood-grain vanity brings warmth against the white countertop and neutral floor tile.

The shower uses a barn-door style sliding glass system instead of a hinged door. In a smaller bathroom, you don’t want a door swinging into your limited floor space. The vertical tile pattern makes the ceiling look taller.

The floating vanity keeps floor space visible, which helps the bathroom feel less cramped. The round mirror and three-light fixture above it provide good task lighting for morning routines. All the gold fixtures were chosen to match, from the shower hardware down to the toilet paper holder.

Floor tile runs throughout in a neutral tone that won’t show wear or look dated in a few years. The white countertop stays clean-looking and provides contrast against the wood cabinet.

The Transformation Process

The bathtub and shower surround were stripped to the studs for a complete rebuild. Removing the old fixtures allowed us to inspect the walls and address any water damage or mold before starting fresh. Once we verified that the framing and plumbing were solid, we installed proper waterproofing throughout the shower area.

For the tub-to-shower conversion, we first adjusted the drain and valve. Next, we positioned the new fixtures to accommodate the sliding door system. We then installed moisture-resistant backer board on the walls, followed by tiling. After completing the tile work, we installed the glass door, and finally, we upgraded the vanity and fixtures.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bathroom remodel like this take? A full bathroom remodel with new tile, shower doors, vanity, and fixtures typically takes 1-2 weeks, depending on the scope and any unexpected issues behind the walls.

Can I keep my existing shower location? Yes, keeping the shower and toilet in their current spots saves money on plumbing work. Most bathroom updates can be done within the existing layout, unless you’re doing a significant expansion.

Do all my fixtures need to match? They don’t have to, but matching your metal finishes creates a more polished look. Gold/brass hardware has become popular in Austin bathrooms because it adds warmth without feeling too traditional.

What’s the advantage of sliding shower doors? Sliding doors don’t swing out into the bathroom, which saves space and prevents water from dripping onto your floor when you open them.
